On 17 September 2026, the closing event of the programme “Supporting the Performance of Local Public Safety Councils” was held in Tirana. The programme was implemented under STRIVE Global II, funded by the European Union (European Commission – European Union in Albania), with programme support from Hedayah and implementation by IANS Albania, in cooperation with the CVE Center and local structures.
The event brought together representatives of central institutions, international partners, civil society organisations, and municipal structures from the areas where the programme was implemented, bringing local-level experience and perspectives into the discussions.
In her remarks, Ms Lejdi Dervishi, National Coordinator for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Director of the CVE Center, emphasised the importance of strengthening coordination between the national and local levels, as well as the role of Local Public Safety Councils (LPSCs) as key mechanisms for interinstitutional cooperation and community-based prevention.
The event was also addressed by Ms. Ruseti, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs; Mr. Casale, representative of the Delegation of the European Union to Albania; H.E. Mr Al Qasimi, Director General of Hedayah; and Ms. Çarçani, Director General at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
During the event, Ms Bllaca, Executive Director of IANS Albania, presented the findings and recommendations arising from the work conducted with the Local Public Safety Councils, highlighting the progress achieved, the challenges encountered, and the need to further consolidate these mechanisms. In this context, Ms. Sainsbury, representing Hedayah, also presented Hedayah’s perspective on the importance of strengthening local prevention mechanisms and ensuring their sustainability.
The findings and recommendations will be further discussed and assessed with a view to incorporating them into policies and strategies on public order and security, as well as on preventing and countering violent extremism, so that the results achieved contribute to the establishment of sustainable, long-term mechanisms.
The CVE Center will continue to support local capacity-building, national–local coordination, and interinstitutional cooperation, linking national prevention policies with the concrete needs of communities.
