The Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism – Albania is a hub for coordination and capacity development of local stakeholders and frontline practitioners involved in efforts to counter violent extremism in Albania and the region by sharing best practices and developing effective evidence based responses to counter the threat of violent extremism. The Center is regularly engaging with communities, policymakers, and practitioners in Albania, the region, and internationally to better informs policies and activities in support of preventing and countering violent extremism. The Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism – Albania was established pursuant to the Council of Ministers’ decision 737 from December 2017, as a public legal entity, with headquarters in Tirana.

CVE Strategy

In 2015 the Government of Albania adopted a comprehensive national CVE Strategy outlining a series of measures and actions to be taken by a wide range of government and public sector stakeholders working in education, law enforcement and social welfare focusing on three priority areas: Community outreach and engagement Countering extremist propaganda by promoting democratic values and Draft long-term comprehensive CVE policies. Following the adoption of the national CVE Strategy, the associated National Action Plan foresees a direct engagement and activities to be undertaken with government stakeholders at the local level as part of the efforts to tackle the phenomenon of radicalization and threats of violent extremism and provide examples of effective CVE engagement.

The Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism - Albania was established in 2017 as the main government entity leading the way in this endeavor, but it became fully operational in June 2018. The CVE Center is a hub for coordination and capacity development of local stakeholders and frontline practitioners involved in efforts to counter violent extremism in Albania and the region by sharing best practices and developing effective evidence-based responses to counter the threat of violent extremism.
