On June 2–3 and 4–5, 2025, the Coordination Center Against Violent Extremism organized training sessions with the Regional Committees for the Prevention of Radicalization and the Fight Against Violent Extremism in the prefectures of Shkodër and Kukës.
The central theme of these trainings was:
“Addressing Cases of Violent Extremism and Religious Radicalization within the Community, and Responding to the Needs of Returnees from Conflict Zones.”
These activities were held in the framework of the project “Leaving the Past Behind: Building Resilience Against Violent Extremism,” implemented by the Counseling Line for Women and Girls (CLWG), with financial support from the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF).
🔹 The first session focused on the Technical Secretariat of the Regional Committee, with the aim of strengthening their capacities to ensure the effective functioning of the committee and to fulfill its role in identifying, referring, and preventing cases of violent extremism at the local level.
🔹 The second session was dedicated to the members of the Regional Committees and addressed the following topics: Their role in preventing and addressing cases of violent extremism; Processes of rehabilitation, reintegration, and resocialization of involved individuals; Understanding radicalization in the Albanian context; Familiarization with the national referral mechanism and the importance of inter-institutional cooperation for a coordinated and effective approach.
During the open discussions, participants emphasized the importance of increasing community awareness on the phenomenon of radicalization and violent extremism. They highlighted the need for continuous training, active community engagement, and the strengthening of institutional cooperation mechanisms to build resilience and promote social safety at the local level.
