Director of the Center Against Violent Extremism and the National Coordinator for CVE, Denion Meidani, received near the offices of the Albanian representation in the Nations United States in New York, the Deputy Coordinator of Anti-Terrorism of the US State Department, Mr. Ian Moss, in the framework of the activities of the “Strong Cities” network and the “GCTF Global Anti-Terror Forum”, organized in New York.

This meeting was of particular importance as it focused on strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism where Mr. Moss expressed the unsparing support of the USA for Albania and appreciated its role as an important partner in these joint efforts.

In this meeting, Mr. Meidani discussed with Mr. Moss on the processes of rehabilitation, re-integration and re-socialization of citizens returned to the Republic of Albania. He shared the challenges and lessons learned from these processes and emphasized Albania’s commitment to joint projects against terrorism and extremism and the readiness to return Albanian citizens who are in camps in Syria and Iraq.

Another issue in which Mr. Meidani focused was the process of transformation of the Center Against Violent Extremism as well as the initiatives undertaken in the establishment of the network of Regional Coordinators for the prevention and opposition of violent extremism as well as the key role of the institution he leads in the inter-institutional coordination in these processes.

On the other hand, Moss discussed with Meidani the situation in the camps in Syria and Iraq and thanked Albania for its contribution to the advisory group “Project Advisor Steering Group” of the USA for the return of foreign fighters and their families to the country of origin.

He also assured Meidani of his office’s support in the reform processes being undertaken by the Center Against Violent Extremism.
