

On 15 April 2026, in Korca was held the meeting of the Regional Committee on the Prevention of Radicalization and the Fight against Violent Extremism with the participation of representatives form local and central institutions, security structures, the education sector, as well as actors engaged in the field of preventing violent extremism. The meeting focused on addressing key challenges related to the prevention of radicalization, with particular emphasis on the protection of children and young people in the online environment.
The opening remark was given by the Prefect of Korça, Ms. Florinda Zegullaj, who highlighted the importance of early and coordinated intervention to ensure the safety of children and young people, especially in the face of risks arising from the digital environment. She noted that, although no specific cases of radicalization have been identified by educational structures in the region, institutions continue to work proactively to raise awareness and strengthen preventive mechanisms.
The Prefect further emphasized that the institutional focus will remain on preventive activities, awareness-raising programs, and the strengthening of inter-institutional cooperation, with the aim of creating a safe environment for the community and, in particular, for young people.
Subsequently, the National Coordinator for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, Ms. Lejdi Dervishi, stressed the importance of effective coordination between institutions at both central and local levels. She underlined the need for structured cooperation not only in the field of prevention, but also in the process of rehabilitation, reintegration, and support for individuals repatriated from conflict zones, as well as for those who have completed their sentences in penitentiary institutions.
In her remarks, the Director of the CVE Center highlighted the importance of expanding regional cooperation, encouraging the development of joint activities with neighboring countries. Particular emphasis was placed on the exchange of good practices and the strengthening of institutional capacities for the prevention of violent extremism at the regional level.
The meeting concluded with a shared agreement among all participants to intensify inter-institutional cooperation, increase community engagement, and develop concrete awareness-raising, educational, and preventive initiatives at the local level. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of institutions to strengthening a comprehensive approach to preventing violent extremism, placing early prevention, cooperation among stakeholders, and sustained support for community safety and well-being at the center of efforts.
