The Director of the Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism, Mrs. Lejdi Dervishi contributed to the proceedings of the International Conference “The Role of Women and Children in Terrorism”, organized by the Council of Europe, on December 15-16, held in Strasbourg, France.
The conference proceedings focused on the issues and challenges arising from the return to Europe of women and children having been involved in terrorist organizations abroad. The main purpose of this conference was to provide a suitable platform for the exchange of high-quality information and awareness-raising on this topic.
During the speech, Mrs. Dervishi presented Albania’s progress in the process of rehabilitation, reintegration, and re-socialization of repatriates from the conflict zones of Syria and Iraq, with a special focus on children. Also, the Director of the Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism focused on the challenges faced by the actors who conducted, coordinated, and monitored these processes. During this session was discussed the feasibility of reintegration and rehabilitation in Europe of women and children suspected of being involved in terrorism-related offenses in Syria and Iraq. Also, it was explored the effectiveness of these programs, methods, and strategies used.
