The Advisor of the American State Department (DASH) for Anti-Terrorism, Mr. Dan Guerrero made a two-day working visit to Albania, on February 23-24, 2023.
Mr. Guerrero held meetings at the Ministry of the Interior with the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Romina Kuko, the Director of the Center for Countering Violent Extremism, Denion Meidani, the Director General of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, as well as the head of the Anti-Terrorism Directorate, in the Directorate of the State Police.
During the meeting with Deputy Minister Kuko, where he was accompanied by the Political and Military Secretary of the US Embassy in Tirana, Tobei Arai, as well as the Director of the Center for Countering Violent Extremism, Denion Meidani, Mr. Guerrero stated that the further development and strengthening of the operational capacities and personnel of the structures of the Ministry of the Interior responsible for the fight against Terrorism and Violent Extremism are a priority for the office he represents. At the same time, the deepening of the cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior and the American structures responsible for anti-terror and extremism and support for reforms was also another topic of discussion.
Ms. Kuko after thanking Mr. Guerrero for the unsparing support of the USA for Albania, and in particular for the support that is being given for the transformation of the Center for Countering Violent Extremism into the Agency Against Terrorism and Extremism, he informed him about the progress that the Ministry of Interior and the CVE Center has done in the rehabilitation and re-integration processes of Albanian citizens, returned from the conflict areas of Syria and Iraq, the fight against terrorism and extremism as well as the reforms that are being undertaken as a whole in the security institutions of the Ministry of the Interior.
After the meeting with Deputy Minister Kuko, Guerrero and Arai, together with other representatives of the US Embassy in Tirana, held a round table near the Center for Countering Violent Extremism, where the joint fight against terrorism and extremism was discussed. Officials from the State Police, the CVE Center, Interpol Tirana, Customs, etc. participated in this table.
