The Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism organized the regional conference “The Role of Women in Countering Violent Extremism in the Western Balkans” in cooperation with the OSCE Presence in Albania. The conference, which brought together Coordinators for Countering Violent Extremism, experts, leaders, and policymakers from Albania, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, focused on the role of women in preventing and combating the phenomenon.

The Director of the CVE Center, Mrs. Lejdi Dervishi, in her opening speech at the conference, said that “Government efforts to empower women in this field are giving hopeful results”.  The establishment of various networks for the prevention of violent extremism has been the focus of the work of the CVE Center, since its establishment, and one of these networks is a network of women that serves as an open voluntary platform, continuously supported by civil society organizations”.

Describing it as a social battle, Mrs. Dervishi said that the CVE Center is committed to realizing its mission. The purpose is to include best practices in responding to a gender perspective on phenomenon-related issues.

The conference, which was organized in three working sessions where were discussed the challenges, the exchange of experiences at the regional level, as well as the identification of ways to work together on issues on the phenomenon, was also greeted by the head of the OSCE in Albania, Mr. Vicenzo Del Monaco and the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection, Mr. Albert Nikolla.
