On December 26, 2024, the Coordination Center for Countering Violent Extremism (CVE Center) coordinated two training sessions for the Regional Committees on PCVE of Elbasan and Fier regions, on the topic of “Addressing cases of violent extremism and religious radicalism in the community, as well as responding to the needs of returnees from conflict zones.”
The training sessions, conducted in cooperation with the Counseling Line for Women and Girls, financed by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund, aimed to increase the capacities of members of the Technical Secretariats of the Regional Committees to identify cases and refer them, as well as to discuss aspects related to preventing radicalism and countering violent extremism within the framework of the activity of the Regional Committees.
The focus of the sessions was on understanding the Albanian context of radicalization, the experience created with the community reintegration processes of returnees from conflict zones, the psychosocial profile and specific needs, as well as the factors that influence a successful reintegration. Participants focused on the functioning of national referral mechanisms for cases of violent extremism, and the importance of inter-institutional cooperation was emphasized. Discussions during the trainings highlighted the need for increased awareness, tailored treatments and building a safer and more sustainable community in Albania.
