On February 25th and 26th, Skopje hosted the regional event titled “Cross-border Cooperation for Building Resilient Communities: Networking and Sharing Best Practices for P/CVE and R&R,” bringing together National Coordinators for the Prevention of Violent Extremism from Albania, Kosovo, and the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as representatives from public institutions, municipalities, universities, civil society, and the EU Delegation in North Macedonia, among others.
This two-day activity, organized within the framework of the Open Gate / La Strada program – financially supported by the European Union aims to address current trends and the situation related to PCVE in our countries, the role of municipalities, and local strategies for P/CVE, exchange of best practices in preventing and combating violent extremism, community engagement, youth inclusion, and education in P/CVE Programs, rehabilitation and reintegration (R&R) programs, progress, challenges, and tailored approaches, as well as the building of sustainable networks.
National Coordinators from the three countries shared experiences and best practices, discussed cross-border cooperation, and the role of local communities and institutions in building resilience; emphasizing strengthening partnerships and increasing the effectiveness of efforts to prevent violent extremism in the region.
In her speech, Ms. Lejdi Dervishi stated that, considering the well-structured legal framework in our countries and the extraordinary support of international partners, the time has come for us to jointly create a regional model that transcends national borders in dealing with the phenomenon of radicalism and violent extremism leading to terrorism. Highlighting the very good cooperation between our countries, Ms. Dervishi stressed the need to further advance it and also to ensure that the results of programs implemented at the local level can be exchanged among countries in the region, so that the expertise becomes a successful Balkan model, and the Western Balkans is recognized as the ‘avant-garde’ in opposing EDH, in a unified manner.
