On 4.10.2022, the Institute for Activism and Social Change held the lunching event of the program “Safe prisons – Safe communities – Rehabilitative and reintegrative approach for people on the verge of freedom”
In this event, the Coordination Center for countering Violent Extremism was represented by the Director of the Center, Mr. Denion Meidani. He emphasized the fact that strategies and implementation actions associated with non-punitive policies and programs against radicalization and then de-radicalization that include engagement and work with prison rehabilitation programs to ensure the effective implementation and sustainability of related measures , are a must. “I strongly advocate that we should focus our discussions today on the possibilities of adopting an approach aimed at strengthening these key components of prison management”- he stated.
Developing prisoner classification frameworks and tools as well as developing extremist prisoner management methodology, updating rehabilitation and reintegration programs, or coordinated multi-layered interventions aimed at disengaging extremist prisoners from violence and facilitating their reintegration social after release are fundamental to be implemented in this program, said Mr. Maidani.
Mr. Mediani greeted Mrs. Erinda Bllaca, Executive Director of IANS, and thanked her for doing such an important job in setting up and planning to create and maintain a strong stakeholder network structure as critical to the success of R&D processes and genereal initiatives against violent extremism.
