The link between disinformation and extremism in the Western Balkans: The CVE Coordination Center participated in the regional activity.

Representatives from the Center for Coordination against Violent Extremism (CVE Center) and the State Police participated in a two-day regional event held in Sarajevo on 1–2 June 2026, organized by the EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalization (EU-KH), within the framework of an Ad-Hoc meeting on the link between disinformation and extremism in the Western Balkans.

The event brought together representatives from security institutions, the journalism community, and field experts from across the region. Discussions focused on addressing disinformation, hate speech, and the phenomenon of Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), highlighting their role as factors that can contribute to radicalization and extremism.

Participants shared experiences and best practices, emphasizing the need for coordinated institutional approaches, robust risk assessments, and early interventions to protect the most vulnerable groups. The cross-border nature of disinformation and the role of technology in its dissemination were also highlighted.

The meeting was assessed as an important platform for strengthening regional cooperation and developing joint strategies to prevent radicalization.
