The Center for Countering Violent Extremism (CCVE) coordinated a three-day training on “Building Safe and Trauma-Prepared Communities” in collaboration with the Institute for Social Contract (SCI) and SALAMA. The training was conducted from October 29-31, in Tirana. During this event, about 50 participants participated, including psychologists/psychiatrists, school security officers, social workers, child protection workers, theologians, community policing specialists, The Albanian State Police representatives, local governance representatives, and frontline professionals, to develop essential skills in building community resilience and addressing trauma.
In this training lectured six international experts who led sessions on important topics, including the chronology of terrorist activities over the last 10 years and current recruitment trends, trauma-sensitive interviewing, mental health assessment in community work, and creating safe environments for individuals affected by trauma. The experts also provided insights into trauma-sensitive approaches in countries such as Kazakhstan, the Maldives, and Lebanon.
The program aligns with the CVE Center’s commitment to Albania’s 2023-2025 National Action Plan for Countering Violent Extremism, which emphasizes building capacities at central and local level to prevent radicalization. Participants expressed appreciation for the practical knowledge gained, reinforcing the CVE Center’s mission to support community safety and resilience, as well as approaches for the reintegration and rehabilitation of individuals linked to violent extremism or returned from conflict zones.
